A 33-year-old Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer was sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl he met while serving as her Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) instructor in the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC).
The offences occurred over several months between December 2023 and April 2024 at various locations, including the accused’s residence.
The case drew concern as the officer, in a position of authority and trust, initiated a sexual relationship with the minor despite being aware of her feelings toward him.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual penetration of a minor under Section 376A of the Penal Code, which criminalises sexual activity with minors under 16 and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible fine.
Representing the accused, our lawyer, Ms Noelle Teoh submitted that her client was remorseful and had cooperated fully with investigations. She highlighted that the proceedings had caused him significant emotional distress, and that he recognised the seriousness of his actions.
SENTENCE
The court sentenced the accused to 30 months’ imprisonment, taking into account mitigating factors and the early guilty plea. Several other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
