Reported by the Straits Times on 19th May 2025

On May 19, 2025, a former Mediacorp actor was sentenced to 40 months in prison by Singapore’s State Courts after pleading guilty to multiple charges involving the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl. The offences occurred between June 6 and June 20, 2024, at various locations including a hotel, a hospital, and the accused’s residence.

Additional charges of harassment and obstruction of justice were also addressed, including instructing the victim not to report the matter and persistently contacting her despite being told to stop. The court lifted a prior gag order, allowing his identity to be disclosed publicly for the first time since charges were filed in January 2025.

The 35-year-old Singapore permanent resident appeared in court wearing a black mask and displayed visible discomfort as the proceedings unfolded. The prosecution proceeded with three of the eight charges, with the remaining five taken into consideration during sentencing. The victim’s identity remains protected under the law.

During mitigation, Ms Noelle Teoh, counsel for the accused from Gloria James-Civetta & Co, told the court that the investigations had left her client anxious and distraught about his future and the potential consequences of a conviction. She added that while he was aware of the seriousness of his actions, he remains remorseful.

    SENTENCE
The court sentenced the former actor to 40 months’ imprisonment. The sentence reflects the severity of the offences and the need for deterrence in cases involving the sexual exploitation of minors.
